English for Critical Thinkers

English for Critical Thinkers

Critical thinking, in its broadest sense, has been described as
purposeful, reflective judgment concerning what to believe or what to do
The objective of this project is to produce EFL lesson plans based on topics not normally covered by the course books.

While teaching English lessons using the ubiquitous contexts such as lifestyles, food, travel, health, fashion, entertainment, and so on, are no doubt valuable due to their frequency and universal relevance, it seems a great opportunity is being missed to ask our students to think about and discuss issues, perhaps for the first time, that have the potential to affect our lives in a more profound manner.

Here you will find material on other frequent and universal realities.  Realities such as war, the economic system, influential corporations, powerful people & organisations, the role of the media, the role of drugs and some of the so-called conspiracy theories.

The paramount aim of the material is to encourage our students to think about the kind of world we live in.  To some, these lessons may be trival nonsense, and others offensive rhetoric.  Either way, I will always endeavour to maintain the factual integrity of the materials, and the rest, I leave in your hands.

The lessons are wholly content driven, taking a CLIL inspired approach, and focus primarily on developing the 4 skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening).
